Cheryl Strayed is the author of this book. Cheryl Strayed is a heck of a good writer. In this book, the author shares a woman’s journey through finding herself. She is funny, she is real, she is raw. This woman shares parts of her that are vulnerable and it leaves you feeling strangely connected even if you can’t relate to particular experiences.

She is amazing, but even the negative things she does to herself and to others are there as tools to exaggerate this greatness as opposed to helping to establish her as a three dimensional, imperfect human being. And the tough part about this is that she does go into her past and she does identify some of the negative things she does to those around her. Strayed faces these questions alone and on the trail. She doesn’t leave her troubles behind, she walks her troubles to the ground until they can’t run away from her because they are exhausted. Then she begins to deal with them and change her life. The result is an inspiring story, authentic in it’s suffering and growing understanding.
