The constant object of gawkers, Lucy grew to believe she was ugly, incapable of inspiring romantic love. Her friendships were desperate attempts to overcome this self-doubt, requiring total love and commitment. Because of her charm and ability, she was able to command this level of love, but because of her self-doubt, she was never quite able to believe in it. Overall, it’s a good story with some great points on friendship.
