“The Order of Time” is an amazing book to anyone wanting to learn more about the universe and how it works. Carlo Rovelli is the author of this perfect book. This book is a paradigm-shifting, thought-provoking, amazing and poetic book. The author does a good job of making the material approachable and provides some useful insights into the time and how we experience it. If you’re interested in the physics of time, this is a good book to read. Brilliant book ideas in modern physics about the nature of time presented in a lucid and erudite style with many literary and historical references. More the work of a poet than a scientist, but one who nonetheless is completely up to date with the science of time in the quantum universe. In this book, the author takes us on a journey into the exploration of time. Asking questions about time that physicists, scientists, and philosophers alike continue to struggle to understand. Rovelli disrupts the assumptions and beliefs we have about time. Our lives revolve around the order of time however as revealed in this book, time is not as ordered as we may think it to be.

The Order of Time is one of the few books that can change the perception of the world as we see it. For example, a human being is not a thing at all, but a process, like a cloud above the mountain, it’s a complex process that enters and exits food, information, light, words and so on. A knot of knots in a network of social relations, in a network of chemical processes, in a network of emotions exchanged with its own kind. What makes the world go round are not sources of energy but the sources of low entropy. Without low entropy, energy would be diluted into uniform heat and the world would go to sleep in a state of thermal equilibrium there would no longer be any distinction between past and future, and nothing would happen. Traces of the past exist, and no traces of the future, only because entropy was low in the past.” Really a great book that transforms the way we perceive “the reality”. It probably should be read more than once. The final thoughts of the writer on the meaning of life and death are also beautiful. Almost a little poetic. The book is written in an intelligible way. This is all, of course, a major oversimplification of the book. Rovelli provides an infinitely more detailed account and his excursions into the quantum realm are fascinating for those who have the interest and patience. He is a skilled and clear writer, and his Feynman-esque ability to explain complex topics in simple terms with ample metaphor and analogy is something you’ll appreciate when the topic turns to quantum loop gravity. Overall, it’s a fascinating book that will help you think more clearly about the concept of time, including what a world without time looks like.
