“The Light We Lost” is a classy book for you, if you believe in love at first sight. Jill Santopolo is the author of this wonderful book. In Jill Santopolo exquisite book, she deftly explores the complex, and often complicated, the experience of falling in love. Jill Santopolo writing to be captivating and interesting probably one of the most fascinating writing styles. The Light We Lost is a beautifully written story that depicts the many different types of love one can experience, and the overwhelming heartbreak love can render when one gives oneself over to another, utterly and completely. This book tells the story of Lucy and Gabe, who are seniors at Columbia who meet on 9/11/2001, the days the towers fell in New York. Although they spent the day watching the terrible events happen, they don’t see each other again for a year.

When they do they get together and are happy and bring out the best in each other. Gabe becomes a photojournalist and leaves the country and this breaks Lucy’s heart, Gabe is her everything and she has to go on without Gabe in her life. Gabe and Lucy live different lives now but their love is forever and it’s hard for both of them when they have grown so far apart, but their love transcends time. Lucy is married with two children, and Gabe has girlfriends but never commits. They run into each other in New York on occasion, and it feels like they never were apart. Love is bittersweet for them both, and something happens near the end of the book that changes everything forever. Finally, “The Light We Lost” is a great example of character-driven writing, and it’s a story with an unusual format. With each chapter set as a short vignette, it’s told from the perspective of Lucy as she directly addresses to Gabe, and another interesting point rather rare.
