“The Last Time I Lied: A Novel” is an amazing story about Emma, an artist, haunted by her past. Riley Sager is the perfect author of this book. The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager is an engaging thriller with a few issues. This is a roundabout psychological thriller. This story is about Emma, an artist, haunted by her past. Fifteen years previously, Emma’s roommates disappeared from summer camp, never to be heard from again. Emma is invited back to the camp and decides to go in the hope of discovering what happened to her friends. Emma is out of sorts as soon as she crosses the gate to Camp Nightingale and she never quite recovers her balance. She is assigned to the same cabin she occupied that fateful summer. She makes several unexpected discoveries as she explores her surroundings.

In the midst of creepy findings and bizarre occurrences including flashbacks which gradually reveal vital information about the days leading up to the girls’ disappearance. The tension increases as events in the present begin to mirror occurrences from the past. Going back and forth in time, The Last Time I Lied is an incredibly riveting mystery with a clever, atmospheric setting and storyline. Unfortunately, many plot reveals were improbable from Emma being invited back to camp after the trouble she caused for the family who owns the camp, to no effort being made to install proper security all over the camp after the worry and fuss of the event 15 years before. Overall this is an enjoyable read, and recommended, but would be more enjoyable if the ending hadn’t been implausible.
