“The Crafter’s Dungeon: A Dungeon Core Novel (Dungeon Crafting)” is a great book if you like both crafting and dungeon core books. Jonathan Brooks is an absolutely fantastic author of this book. An interesting story-line and reason for existence, it’s fun to watch the crafting process play out and how teaching people can change the world around this dungeon. First, however, the storyline is excellent and despite a slow start, there are plenty of mysteries and a unique form of dungeon building to keep the reader engaged. A good story with a different take on the dungeon core genre and one that is refreshing due to the fact the dungeon soul is only killing to defend. The story goes in an even rarer direction for common dungeon stories as we find out by the end.  This author has proven to be able to produce a solid series.

Now to better explain perspective, we not a gamer and do not know about how the game stat system works. We do however have a science and math background and enjoy details and numbers. We don’t mind the stats or the leveling up, we enjoy the extra details. The screens are we issue, they are visually jarring. We feel like we have to watch a PowerPoint presentation from 2005. They are clunky and for us, they pull us right out of the focus on the story, just because of the dark blue background and excel boxes. We can’t seem to “dive back in” the book until the next page without the screen. We would prefer to see more of haze screen made of mana that looks like a medieval scroll or Smokey looking light blue mana screen. We don’t mind the numbers and full explanations of the items or upgrades but the graphics are visually jarring and we can see more non-gamer readers accepting the game lit elements if they were more visually appealing. In the end, recommend them to anyone who likes dungeon focused tales and good characters.
