The Beantown Girls by Jane Healey

The criteria for becoming a Red Cross Club mobile woman were stringent single, college graduate, over the age of 25. Of those who qualified and applied, only one in six met the necessary physical, emotional and social requirements to be accepted into the program. Despite personal trials and tribulations, they managed to face the troops with a smile and an encouraging word to go with the doughnuts. Three women and hundreds of soldiers, this is a romance novel at heart, even though many of those men and some of the women wouldn’t come home. It is ultimately an uplifting book about bravery, friendship and love.
