Description of Scarred by Sarah Edmondson ePub

“Scarred: The True Story of How I Escaped NXIVM, the Cult that Bound My Life (True Crime Memoir, Cult Books)” is one of the best stories of a sincere, enthusiastic and powerful woman. Sarah Edmondson and Kristine Gasbarre are the authors of this impressive book. Sarah tells her story from her heart and you can feel it. Anyone who thinks they are above being manipulated and coerced into belonging to a group like this is foolish. It can happen to anyone, and sadly it happens all the time. Grateful that this heroine brought down this cult and saved so many with her bravery. It’s truly a fascinating story and a great read. The book described in detail many of the aspects of many cults that are in existence. In this book, the author presents this immediately, sucking you into this harrowing true tale from page 1. Scarred is many things. It is remarkably poignant, powerful and evocative, terrifying yet incredibly inspiring. It is raw and honest. It is real. It’s one woman’s story of how she put her life on the line in order to bring justice to a man hailed by many as a self-help guru and bonafide genius. But the reality of who he is and what he did will leave you speechless. The reality is much more sinister than anything you could ever imagine. This is the first-hand account by Sarah about her involvement with NXIVM. She initially took classes that would help her life, it then a way to earn a living by being one of those who taught classes and recruited students to take them and eventually came to dominate her life.

Scarred by Sarah Edmondson

The first chapter describes the event that started the chain reaction that led Edmondson to leave NXIVM, her agreeing to strip naked in a room with other women and then walking into a room where she would receive a tattoo which she soon realizes is a “brand” with the initials of the founder Keith Rainiere. The book jumps back and describes how this well educated, successful woman with loving parents, a serious boyfriend, good friends with a nice life came to be dominated by the cult. The book ends by describing her wanting to leave it and her steps of contacting the New York Times which eventually broke the story on NXIVM which led to its demise and criminal convictions against Rainiere and other NXIVM leaders. After all that she went through, she came out with her family intact, a vision for her future, and a determination to move forward and help other victims out of NXIVM. Her story is truly one of courage, strength, and triumph.
