The “Lock Every Door: A Novel” If you are looking for a really good horror type scary story, this is it. Riley Sager is the best author of this book. Lock Every Door is another masterful thriller by Riley Sager! Jules Larsen is a young lady that has come to New York City in search of a career. She does get a job and then partners in an apartment with another girl. It looks like she has joined many other aspirants living and working in the big city when she is suddenly out of the job due to layoffs by the company. Like many others, she has been living from paycheck to paycheck and is desperate to find work. What looks like a great opportunity presents itself to her. She applies for a position as an apartment sitter in one of the apartments in the very prestigious building known as the “Bartholomew”. The location is right near Central Park and is exclusive and geared towards the very rich. It is about 100 years old and figured in the life of New York City since its construction. Jules interviews for the job and is offered it. Conditions for taking the job are more than a little strange, but she feels it is a great opportunity for her. There is a three-month obligation.

She is to be paid in cash, and a very large amount at that. Every night must be spent in the apartment. No visitors at all and certainly no disturbing the tenants who are all rich and many famous. Jules moves in and is immediately struck by a magnificent view of Central Park as well as a stone Gargoyle right outside of one of her windows. Shortly after moving in things begins to happen that could signal the possibility that Mr. Sagar’s novel is a horror story. There are screams at night: sounds of someone or something moving around in the apartment and the few other apartment sitters she does meet are all frightened of the goings on in the building. As such, the stage is set for ghosts and demons to begin appearing, but no. The book is very far from a story of a haunting. Events do point out the ending reached as a logical one, but the author does a great job of taking his readers hither and yon. Different conclusions are reached by the reader as he or she is drawn into the events and what is happening to Jules. The ending is quite satisfying and the time spent reading Mr. Sagar’s novel is very well spent indeed.
