Finally, “How to change your mind” is a fascinating look at the science of psychedelics and the research surrounding their use in the treatment of depression and other brain disorders, the psychological ease and comfort of terminal cancer patients, and the disruption of rigid thinking. With his characteristic precision and expert reportage, Michael Pollan tackles a somewhat controversial subject with care, occasional humor, and curiosity that separates fact from fiction about these often-mysterious drugs. He blends science, memoir, history, and medicine and sums it all up with a good bit of participatory journalism and an examination of human consciousness. Superb, compelling, informative.
